Checkups & Cleanings

A standard checkup and cleaning appointment is one of the most effective things we can do to keep your smile looking great and protect you from tooth decay, cavities, gum disease, and more. Every treatment plan we provide will start with these services, and with just two of them each year, you can easily achieve a problem-free smile!

First, one of our doctors will perform a thorough oral exam where they’ll look at each of your teeth, gums, jaw, and check the condition of any existing dental work. Using their observations along with some X-rays, they’ll be able to fully understand your dental health and can recommend any additional treatments you might need to avoid bigger problems down the line.

And with a dental cleaning, one of our hygienists will use specialized tools to break up and clear away harmful plaque and tartar that has built up on your teeth, particularly targeting those areas you can’t reach at home. This will help keep you cavity-free between appointments!

Periodontal Therapy

Periodontal therapy is a collection of treatments intended to help those who have periodontal disease, which if you’re not familiar with, is another name for gum disease. This is a bacterial infection of the gums and bone that support the teeth, and left untreated, it can cause chronic bad breath, tooth loss, and even increase a person’s chances of developing systemic illnesses like heart disease!

We’ll screen your gums whenever you come to see us, and should we spot the slightest problem, we can use periodontal therapy to quickly take care of it. In most cases, this will consist of a scaling and root planing treatment. Using an ultrasonic cleaner, we’ll remove any plaque, tartar, and bacteria located around your gum line, and then we’ll gently smooth out the rough surfaces of your teeth’s roots. This will make plaque less likely to build up on them in the future, lowering your chances of redeveloping gum disease.

Oral Cancer Screening

Patient receiving oral cancer screening

Oral cancer rates are currently on the rise here in the U.S., particularly among young, healthy individuals who do not use tobacco or alcohol excessively. This startling fact is why our doctors recommend that all adults should receive at least one oral cancer screening each year, as early detection is the key to successful treatment. Your dentist can perform one as part of your regular checkup, and it literally only takes a couple of minutes. Should they find anything that causes concern, they can help you take quick and appropriate action to get the care you need.

Fluoride Treatment

Thanks to fluoride, both toothpaste and tap water are able to strengthen the teeth and help prevent cavities and tooth decay. It offers an easy, natural way to keep a smile both strong and healthy. To give your family’s smiles a little extra protection between appointments, we can actually provide a topical fluoride treatment as part of your regular checkups. It’s quick, it’s painless, and it’s one of the easiest ways we can keep everyone cavity-free all year.
